BANNERS: A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN | January 25

This copyrighted holiday created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays describes the day as, "for anyone who knows or longs for the sheer bliss or rightness of having a private place, no matter how humble, to call one’s own." That would fit just about everyone we'd say!

Others say the day was inspired by Virginia Woolf’s 1928 extended essay, "A Room of One’s Own". The title of the essay comes from Woolf's conception that, "a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction".

Woolf notes that women have been kept from writing because of their relative poverty, and financial freedom will bring women the freedom to write; "In the first place, to have a room of her own... was out of the question, unless her parents were exceptionally rich or very noble". The title also refers to any author's need for poetic licence and the personal liberty to create art.

But whatever the reasons, we're glad this day was created because we all need to celebrate a room of our own just to unwind, think and allow our thoughts to grow in a positive way.

BANNERS: International SWEATPANTS Day | January

Not enough credit is given to those comfy sweatpants we all love to wear but often take for granted.
If you love those cotton/polyester joggers but are embarrassed to wear them out, today is the day to wear them with pride!

International Sweatpants Day is observed the closest weekday to January 21st. In 2018, it is therefore observed on Monday, January 22, 2018.

No one knows how this day came to be, but we're sure glad it did! Take a break from those yoga pants to celebrate International Sweatpants day.

The first pair of sweatpants was introduced in the 1920s by Émile Camuset, the founder of Le Coq Sportif and were made of knitted material that were gray in colour. The pants, to this day, allows athletes to stretch and run comfortably. Of course, companies like Nike have made considerable efforts into making them more attractive while still keeping them comfortable as the original ones.

BANNERS: National SPAGHETTI Day | January 4

Today is National Spaghetti Day, a day celebrating that long, thin, cylindrical, solid pasta that we all love to twirl before gobbling down.

Did you know, the word spaghetti literally means "little lines"?

We all naturally think of spaghetti as an Italian dish but long before it became a staple in Italian cuisine, families in central Asia were eating similar noodle dishes. As early as the 5th century, nomadic Arabs likely brought the meal westward. The Italians, however, revolutionized the dish, inventing a wide variety of pasta shapes along the way.
