6 CUSS-FREE George Carlin QUOTES

Whether you love him or not, the late George Carlin could entertain you for hours with his often controversial brand of humour - which would more often than not, contain swear words.

George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, actor, and author. Carlin was noted for his black comedy and his thoughts on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and various taboo subjects.

He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential stand-up comedians: One newspaper called Carlin "the dean of counterculture comedians." In 2004, Carlin was placed second on the Comedy Central list of "Top 10 Comedians of US Audiences" compiled for an April 2004 special.

We'll save the swear quotes for another post. In the meantime, here are 6 cuss-free ones...

FACEBOOK Covers: Good Friday

Good Friday is a Christian religious holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover.

Good Friday is a widely instituted legal holiday in many national governments around the world, including in most Western countries (especially among Anglican and Catholic nations) as well as in 12 U.S. states. Some countries, such as Germany, have laws prohibiting certain acts, such as dancing and horse racing, that are seen as profaning the solemn nature of the day.

BANNERS: World Water Day | March 22

World Water Day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro. In 1993, the first World Water Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly and since, each year focuses on a different issue.

Robert Bruce Ford (May 28, 1969 – March 22, 2016) was a Canadian politician and businessperson who served as the 64th mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014. Prior to and after his term as mayor, Ford was a city councilor representing Ward 2 of Etobicoke North. He was first elected to City Council in the 2000 Toronto municipal election, and was re-elected to his council seat twice. Ford was elected mayor in the 2010 mayoral election on a platform of reducing the "gravy train" of government expenses and taxes. The slogan "respect for taxpayers" was attached to that platform.

During his political career, Ford was the subject of a number of personal and work-related controversies and legal proceedings, including a conflict of interest trial that nearly resulted in his being removed from office. In 2013, he became embroiled in a substance abuse scandal, which was widely reported in the national and international media. Ford initially denied the allegations, but after a 2013 Toronto Police Service gang investigation led to police discovering videos of Ford, he admitted to all of the incidents, including public drunkenness, drinking and driving, and illegal drug use.

Following his admission, Ford refused to resign. Not allowed by law to remove Ford from office, Toronto City Council voted to remove certain mayoral powers from Ford and grant them to Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly for the remainder of Ford's term. Council also voted to reduce Ford's office staff and move those staff to Kelly's office.

Despite the scandal, Ford promised to "continue doing the job he was elected to do" and contest the next mayoral election, scheduled for October 2014. On January 2, 2014, Ford registered to run for re-election, but after being hospitalized and diagnosed with an abdominal tumour in September 2014, Ford withdrew from the mayoral race and registered instead to run for his old seat on the City Council.

"A woman is like a teabag..." Plus 7 Other Great QUOTES For WOMEN

8 great quotes to inspire women the world over!

The earliest Women’s Day observance was held on February 28, 1909, in New York; it was organized by the Socialist Party of America in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. There was no specific strike happening on March 8, despite later claims, but back in 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting rights, better pay and shorter working hours and a year later, the first National Woman’s Day was recognized in the US on 28 February.

BANNERS: International Women's Day | March 08

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year.
In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women for women's economic, political, and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended the culture of many countries, primarily in Europe, especially those in the Soviet Bloc.
In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for people to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day.
In other regions, however, the political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. Some people celebrate the day by wearing purple ribbons.
