BANNERS: HAUNTED REFRIGERATOR NIGHT! | October 30

Don't be afraid. Be brave and open that refrigerator door. Go back, waaaay back, where no man has gone before. Check the shelves and go deep into to the depths of the veggie and fruit drawers. What you find may truly scare you!

Just before one of the spookiest nights of the year, Haunted Refrigerator Night was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat to find, “what evil lurks in the refrigerators of men… and women… and venture unto the realm of the lower shelf, rear.”

Happy Haunted Refrigerator Night!

BANNERS: FRANKENSTEIN Friday!

On the last Friday of October, Frankenstein Friday is celebrated in recognition of English writer, Mary Shelly, author of the classic novel, Frankenstein.

The novel that tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a grotesque but sapient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18, and the first edition of the novel was published anonymously in London in 1818, when she was 20. Her name first appeared on the second edition, published in France in 1823.

Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. At the same time, it is an early example of science fiction. Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story because, in contrast to previous stories with fantastical elements resembling those of later science fiction, the central character "makes a deliberate decision" and "turns to modern experiments in the laboratory" to achieve fantastic results. It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films and plays.

Since the novel's publication, the name "Frankenstein" has often been used to refer to the monster itself. This usage is sometimes considered erroneous, but usage commentators regard it as well-established and acceptable.

So go and watch a movie featuring Frankenstein or read the original book written by Mary Shelly today. Happy Frankenstein Friday!

BANNERS: World SMILE Day

The most recognizable symbol of good will and good cheer around the world - the smiley face, was created in 1963 by commercial artist, Harvey Ball from Worcester, Massachusetts.
The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion, so Harvey declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day® (#WorldSmileDay)

The World's first World Smile Day was held in the year 1999 and has been held annually since.

The World Smile Corporation was founded by Ball in 1999. The Corporation licenses Smileys and organizes World Smile Day. World Smile Day raises money for the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation, a non-profit charitable trust that supports children's causes. World Smile Day is held on the first Friday of October each year and is a day dedicated to "good cheer and good works". The catch phrase for the day is "Do an act of kindness - help one person smile".

Happy World Smile Day!

BANNERS: World TEACHERS' Day | October 5 (#WorldTeachersDay)

World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, held annually on October 5 since 1994, commemorates teacher organizations worldwide. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers. #WorldTeachersDay

World Teachers’ Day is a UNESCO initiative, a day devoted to appreciating, assessing, and improving the educators of the world. The real point is to provide a time to look at and address issues pertaining to teachers. Strangely one of the most central, vital professionals to society does not receive the respect it deserves in some parts of the world.

Happy World Teachers' Day!
