BANNERS: National UGLY TRUCK Day! | July 20

July 20th is (unofficially) Ugly Truck Day and we know we've seen our fair share of ugly trucks (ugly as in dirty, dented or dead) that are worthy of this day, but ugly or not, we love 'em all! Happy National Ugly Truck Day!

Ugly trucks have dents, scratches, bizarrely repaired damage, and makeshift modifications of questionable quality. But all of these ugly scars add up to a quintessential characteristic worthy of an (still unofficial) national holiday.

BANNERS: National HOT DOG Day! (#NationalHotDogDay)

The whole month of July is Hot Dog month but National Hot Dog Day varies year to year and in 2017 it falls on Wednesday, July 19. #NationalHotDogDay

According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, the proper etiquette required to eat a hot dog is finish the hot dog in five bites.  In the case of a foot-long wiener, only seven bites are appropriate.

However, we say, it's your hot dog and you can eat it any way you like! Happy National Hot Dog Day!

BANNERS: National FRENCH FRY/FRIES Day! | July 13

Whether you like them curly or crinkle, shoestring or wedges, sweet or regular, spicy or plain, today is the day to celebrate and indulge in your favourite form of fries cause today is National French Fry/Fries Day!!

According to a 1200-participant survey conducted by McCain Canada, of Florenceville, NB, the unofficial French fry capital of the world, sixty percent of Canadians agree that eating French fries makes them happy.

And women are better at sharing their French fries with others than men. In fact, 63% of Canadian women were willing to share their fries compared to 49% of the men.

Poutine or French Fries?
Fifty-two percent of Canadians prefer French fries while 48 percent prefer poutine. But tastes are evolving. A firm majority of Canadians under 35, 65 percent of them, pick poutine over French fries.

And what's Canadians' most favourite style of fries? The straight-cut followed by the shoestring!

Heterochromia is a difference in coloration, usually of the iris but also of hair or skin. Heterochromia is a result of the relative excess or lack of melanin (a pigment). It may be inherited, or caused by genetic mosaicism, chimerism, disease, or injury.

Although infrequently seen in humans, complete heterochromia is more frequently observed in other species, where it almost always involves one blue eye. The blue eye occurs within a white spot, where melanin is absent from the skin and hair (see Leucism). These species include the cat, particularly breeds such as Turkish Van, Turkish Angora, Khao Manee and (rarely) Japanese Bobtail. These so-called odd-eyed cats are white, or mostly white, with one normal eye (copper, orange, yellow, green), and one blue eye.

Among dogs, complete heterochromia is seen often in the Siberian Husky and few other breeds, usually Australian Shepherd and Catahoula Leopard Dog and rarely in Shih Tzu. Horses with complete heterochromia have one brown and one white, gray, or blue eye—complete heterochromia is more common in horses with pinto coloring. Complete heterochromia occurs also in cattle and even water buffalo.

BANNERS: World POPULATION Day! | July 11

World Population day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.

It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987-approximately the date on which the world's population reached five billion people. World Population Day aims at increase people's awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

As of 2017, the world population is around 7.6 billion - but there's been a decline in fertility rates since the 1960s.

While press interest and general awareness in the global population surges only at the increments of whole billions of people, the world population increases by 100 million approximately every 14 months.

Europe has the lowest fertility rate at 1.6 births per woman and Africa has the highest with 4.7 births per woman.

A new UN study of global population trends predicts that India will overtake China to become the world's most populous nation by 2022.

The report also says that Nigeria will replace the US as the world's third most populous country by around 2050.

Africa is expected to account for more than half of the world's population growth over the next 35 years.

By 2100, there will be a population of around 11.2 billion
