Today you get to enjoy a slice (or two) of blueberry cheesecake whether at home or at your favourite place to eat because today it's National Blueberry Cheesecake Day!
The type of cheese used to make cheesecake has a huge impact on the flavour and texture of this delicious dessert. American cheesecakes are made with cream cheese, Italian cheesecakes are made with ricotta, and German and Polish cheesecakes are made with “quark” cheese, which is a type of curd cheese.

BANNERS: Military Spouse Appreciation Day! | May 12
Thanks to President Ronald Reagan, the first National Military Spouses Appreciation Day was observed on May 23, 1984. President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members and declared May 23, 1984 the first Military Spouse Day with Proclamation 5184, dated April 17, 1984.
Originally intended on being a one-off holiday, the US Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger standardized the date by declaring the Friday preceding Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Day aka National Military Spouses Appreciation Day.

In 2016, President Obama was quoted as saying that military families “give up their time with loved ones so we may live safely and freely. Few Americans fully understand the sacrifices made by those who serve in uniform, but for spouses of service members across our country, the costs of the freedom we too often take for granted are known intimately. On Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we honor the spouses of those who have left behind everything they know and love to join our Nation’s unbroken chain of patriots, and we recommit to giving military spouses the respect, dignity, and support they deserve.”

BANNERS: International NURSES' Day! | May 12
International Nurses Day (IND) is an international day celebrated around the world on 12 May (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth) of each year, to mark the contributions nurses make to society.
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day since 1965.
In 1953 Dorothy Sutherland, an official with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, proposed that President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaim a "Nurses' Day"; he did not approve it.
In January 1974, 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Each year, ICN prepares and distributes the International Nurses' Day Kit. The kit contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere.

BANNERS: Trust Your Intuition Day! | May 10
Insight, gut feeling, trusting your heart, a sixth sense, instinct. No matter how you describe, it, everyone knows that feeling inside that either causes a tense stomach or causes a feel-good reaction. The trouble with intuitions is that we don’t always acknowledge or heed it. Intuition can steer you either away from or toward a situation. It’s not tangible, but it is recognizable, if you’re open to it. Trust Your Intuition Day is a day to follow your first instinct.
For left-brainers who rely on rational, analytical, logical and objective decisions, celebrating this holiday may be a challenge. The Association for Psychological Science errs on the side of caution, as sometimes following gut instincts can hinder decisions.

BANNERS: National TRUFFLE Day! | May 2
The delectably famous chocolate truffle comes from Chambéry, invented by pastry chef, Louis Dufour. While lacking treats for the end of the year 1895, Louis decided to create this little chocolate ball of flavour using fresh cream of vanilla taste then coated it with cocoa powder ... and soon pastry chefs everywhere adopted it!
The first recipes for chocolate truffles appeared in the 1920s. Today there are three main types—American, European, and Swiss. Each type of truffle has a slightly different twist, but they all include a creamy ganache filling and a topping like cocoa, coconut, or drizzled chocolate.
To celebrate the day, just pick up a variety of delicious chocolate truffles at your local candy shop today!

BANNERS: International Workers' Day aka Labor Day | May 1
International Workers' Day, also known as Labor Day in some countries, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement, socialists, communists or anarchists and occurs every year on May Day (1 May), an ancient European spring festival. #LaborDay | #InternationalWorkersDay
In the late-19th century, socialists, communists and trade unionists chose May 1 to become International Workers' Day.
The date was symbolic, commemorating the Haymarket affair, which took place in Chicago, in the US, in 1886.
For years, the working class - often forced to work up to 16 hours a day in unsafe conditions - had been fighting for an eight-hour workday.
Then, in October 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labour Unions of the United States and Canada decided that May 1, 1886, would mark the first day that an eight-hour workday would go into effect.
