BANNERS: National GIRLFRIENDS DAY!
Today is National Girlfriends Day, a celebration of women friends all over. According to daysoftheyear.com, there's no clear origin of the day so you know what that means:
You're free to use it as an excuse to drink margaritas with your BFFs or give your significant other a new purse. The only holiday requirement seems to be that you recognize how important your relationships — platonic, intimate and everything in between — are.

BANNERS: World NO TOBACCO Day
May 31 is World NO TOBACCO Day!
World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide, including 600,000 of which are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.
The member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day in 1987. In the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry.

BANNERS: National Day of Mourning | Workers' Memorial Day | April 28
The National Day of Mourning, or Workers’ Mourning Day is observed in Canada on 28 April. It commemorates workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace related hazards and incidents.
The American equivalent, Workers’ Memorial Day, was established in 1970. The April 28 date was chosen to mark the Occupational Health and Safety Act which came into force on that day.
In Canada, Workers' Memorial Day was started in Sudbury, Ontario in 1984, and the Canadian Labour Congress officially declared it an annual day of remembrance in 1985 on April 28. It has since grown to be observed in over 80 countries.
In December 1990, this day became a national observance with the passing of the Workers Mourning Day Act, so that on April 28, 1991, it was officially the National Day of Mourning for persons killed or injured in the workplace; making April 28, an official Workers’ Mourning Day.

BANNERS: Denim Day
As the story goes:
For the past 17 years, Peace Over Violence has run its Denim Day campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Violence Awareness Month. The campaign was originally triggered by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
In this rape prevention education campaign we ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual assault. This year’s Denim Day is April 27, 2016. - denimdayinfo

No one knows why National Prime Rib Day is April 27, or even who created it but do we care? No. So go forth and prepare some prime rib at home for dinner or dine out to enjoy some today!
If you’ve ever wondered exactly what prime rib is, or what separates it from other beef grades and cuts, you aren’t alone. According the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), prime beef comes from well-fed, younger cows and is recognized by its heavy presence of marbling. Marbling is the amount of white fat that you see on meat in relation to lean beef. Prime rib comes from the cow’s upper rib area, and this meat is revered for its high quality. Most fine restaurants and hotels serve prime beef, including prime rib. Prime is the highest grade of beef determined by the USDA. The amount of juiciness the meat has is a direct reflection of how much marbling is present. Therefore, prime cuts will be the juiciest and most flavorful due to the amount of fat present. - inquisitr
